  • Seven Hours Earlier

Seven hours earlier Lucy stopped by Drexel’s Coffee Shop on Hopewell Street in Wood Valley. A small town of around 20,000 people. This was a regular stop for her everyday around 1:30 p.m. But this time was different.

The day before, she had been asked to go out on a date by John the clerk who worked behind the counter. And was always there every day when Lucy stopped in for coffee. Instead of jumping the gun and saying no, she told him that she would think about it and get back to him.

As Lucy walked in she noticed there was line at the counter. So she took a seat at a nearby table and waited for John to assist the customers. After all, there was really no reason for her to wait in line. They had been talking everyday during his breaks for the last couple of weeks. So, he already knew what her order was.

Lucy sat there waiting. She daydreamed about her past dates. How they didn’t work out? How she was to blame? How it was her childhood that was the problem? She was nervous about the next few minutes. What answer would she decide to tell him? Would he be upset with her answer?

John finished with the last person in line. He turned her direction and smiled. Then he proceeded to get her coffee order and also himself a drink and walked to her table.

  • A Dark And Cool Night

It was a dark and cool night. Around 8:30 p.m. The wind was calm. The area was normally warmer that time of year. For some reason though, the weather seemed to be unusual those few days. In the distance, wolves howling could be heard. And there was what seemed to be traffic on a nearby highway. Located on the other side of a forest.

She ran drastically as fast as she could away from him. She tried ever so desperately to free her hands from behind her. As they had been taped up real tight by her captor with duct tape.

Into the forest she ran. She heard the sounds of vehicles coming from a nearby highway. She tried to scream for help as she ran. But her captor had taped her mouth. She tried to get the tape to come off by scraping against a tree. But he had wrapped the tape all the way around her head. With her hands taped behind her, there was no other way available for her to get the tape off.

She started to run again. She had no choice. She had to do everything she could to get away from him. Vehicle sounds from the highway had gotten louder. She ran farther and farther. Finally, she reached the edge of the forest. She stood there and stared into the darkness of the highway while she tried to catch her breath.

Suddenly, she heard a noise behind her. She turned to look. But it was to late. While she had stopped to catch her breath, her captor had caught up with her. He grabbed hold of her. As she struggled to get away, he started dragging her back away from the highway and into the forest.
