  • A Few Hours Later

A few hours later Amber woke to the sound of a shovel being drove into the ground. Every few seconds the shovel went from the ground to a nearby pile of dirt. The shadowy figure looked to be about four foot tall. Only because the hole had gotten deep enough that he had to stand in it to get more dirt out.

Amber laid on her side only a few feet away. Her hands were taped behind her. Her mouth taped all the way around her head. Her feet and knees were also taped up. She was not going anywhere. The air was cool. A small campfire near the hole lit the area, but beyond that it was darkness. She was cold. She tired to move closer to the fire, but was unable to.

“Look who’s awake.” The shadowy figure said as he walked over to her.

He stood there for a minute and stared at her. Then he grabbed her and started to drag her over to the newly dug hole. She fought with all her might as he dragged her. It was no use. Once at the hole, he stood her up on her feet at the very end. He grabbed the duct tape and started to wrap the tape all the around her body from the elbows down to her feet.

Tears fell from her face as he continued to wrap the tape around her body. She looked down in to the hole. Wondering just what exactly he had in store for her. Suddenly he turned her back facing the hole and pushed her in. As she laid in the hole she could see a few stars in the sky. And a few clouds.

Then she started to feel rain drops. Or so she thought. The rain had a weird smell to it. As if it wasn’t rain, but something else.

What is that smell? She thought to herself. Wait. Is that . . . Lighter Fluid? No. It can’t be.

She started squirm. She tried to get free. But she couldn’t. She was wrapped up real tight with an entire roll of duct tape. He stepped back a couple steps and threw a lit match in the hole with her. It only took a few seconds for the entire hole to light up like a Christmas tree. Afterward he took the shovel and used it to push all the lit logs from the campfire into the hole on top of her.

  • Four Days Earlier

Four days earlier Amber and her boyfriend were camping at the river a few miles outside of town. It was a calm and cool night with a slight breeze that came from the south. The air smelled of rain. In the distance lightning could been seen. Amber checked her phone for the latest weather update.

“We should probably pack up and head back to town.” She said as she passed the phone to him.

“After all that time we took to setup the tent and lights. I’m not going anywhere.”

Then he looked at the phone, “It’ll be okay. It’ll blow over. I only see a few sprinkles on the radar. No need to worry.”

He passed the phone back to her and then headed for the wood pile. In the distance the lightning got closer. The sound of thunder started to appear. The calm wind from earlier had disappeared. It was the calm before the storm. Amber knew they needed to leave, but her boyfriend wanted to stay.

A short time later it appeared that the storm had moved off to the west. Amber had been overreacting. It never did rain. Only some lightning and thunder from the distance.

The two of them sat by the fire. Suddenly there was a noise from the trees on the west side. A flash of lightning revealed a shadowy figure. A second flash and it was gone.

“What was that?” Amber said as she grabbed a hold of her boyfriends arm.

“What was what? I don’t see anything.” Then he stood up. “Come on let’s go to bed.”

Suddenly an arrow pierced his chest from behind. A harpoon. He fell to the ground. Amber rushed to him. Blood all over his body. Blood all over herself. Blood all around the whole area.

The shadowy figured reappeared. He grabbed hold of her. Covered her mouth with a chloroform laced towel. After she passed out, he dragged her away into the trees.

  • Her Eyes Were Open

Lucy woke up. Her eyes were open, but the room was so dark she could not see anything around her. The air felt damp and smelled of death. The sink faucet dripped. The clock ticked loudly in the silent room. Only the sounds of someone walking around above her could be heard.

Her hands still taped behind her. Her mouth still taped all the way around her head. She tried to sit up. She could not. She tried to roll sideways. She could not. John had wrapped taped from her feet to her elbows all the way around her body and the plywood bed she laid on.

Suddenly there was light from the hallway that shined through the cracks of the closed door. Foot steps started to appear. Floor creeks happened. Then the squeak of the door as it opened. The light from the hallway flooded the room. In the doorway, stood a dark shadowy figure.

Lucy stared in to the light. The shadowy figure moved closer to the bed. She couldn’t talk. She couldn’t move. All she could do was let a weird psycho have his way with her.

A few minutes past. The shadowy figure got down from on top of her. He grabbed the roll of duct tape and wrapped it around her forehead and the bed holding her head securely in place. Then he reached over to the wall and turned on one single dimly lit light that was directly above her head.

In the light Lucy could see what hung directly above her. A rope held the beheading blade a few feet above her neck. Over to the side a candle was placed underneath the other end.

Suddenly Lucy heard the strike of a match. She panicked. She tried everything she could to get free. But it was no use. She had been taped up real tight with an entire roll of duct tape. The flame moved only a few inches to the candle. Once lit, the candle slowly started to burn the rope that held the blade above her neck. The shadowy figured disappeared into the hallway closing the door behind him.
