  • Her Eyes Were Open

Lucy woke up. Her eyes were open, but the room was so dark she could not see anything around her. The air felt damp and smelled of death. The sink faucet dripped. The clock ticked loudly in the silent room. Only the sounds of someone walking around above her could be heard.

Her hands still taped behind her. Her mouth still taped all the way around her head. She tried to sit up. She could not. She tried to roll sideways. She could not. John had wrapped taped from her feet to her elbows all the way around her body and the plywood bed she laid on.

Suddenly there was light from the hallway that shined through the cracks of the closed door. Foot steps started to appear. Floor creeks happened. Then the squeak of the door as it opened. The light from the hallway flooded the room. In the doorway, stood a dark shadowy figure.

Lucy stared in to the light. The shadowy figure moved closer to the bed. She couldn’t talk. She couldn’t move. All she could do was let a weird psycho have his way with her.

A few minutes past. The shadowy figure got down from on top of her. He grabbed the roll of duct tape and wrapped it around her forehead and the bed holding her head securely in place. Then he reached over to the wall and turned on one single dimly lit light that was directly above her head.

In the light Lucy could see what hung directly above her. A rope held the beheading blade a few feet above her neck. Over to the side a candle was placed underneath the other end.

Suddenly Lucy heard the strike of a match. She panicked. She tried everything she could to get free. But it was no use. She had been taped up real tight with an entire roll of duct tape. The flame moved only a few inches to the candle. Once lit, the candle slowly started to burn the rope that held the blade above her neck. The shadowy figured disappeared into the hallway closing the door behind him.
